The evolution of hydraulic torque wrenches by PLARAD (Part 2.1)

Hydraulic flange wrenches: progress and innovation at a glance

In our previous blog posts, we talked about the development of hydraulic torque nutrunners by PLARAD. But do you know the history of hydraulic torque wrenches? As a pioneer in this field, Plarad has significantly shaped the evolution of this technology over decades through continuous improvements. In this first part of this blog post, we focus on the early advancements and models of Plarad’s hydraulic torque wrenches.

HP-R R+K (from 1978): A milestone for heavy industry

The HP-R R+K marked a significant advancement in torque wrench technology. With a robust steel-welded construction and a performance range of up to 150,000 Nm, this model was ideal for heavy-duty applications in the heavy industry sector. An operating pressure of 350 bar and wrench sizes up to 320 mm made the HP-R R+K indispensable. The modern HPR wrench is directly based on this model and continues to be used for applications up to 150,000 Nm.

HKS-R/K (from 1983): Improved control and precision

The HKS-R/K introduced significant improvements with an operating pressure of 700 bar and a performance range of up to 10,000 Nm. The ratchet types RKF (fixed) and RKW (interchangeable), along with the pivoting drive cylinder centered on the ratchet, enabled more precise control. This model found widespread use in the construction and mechanical engineering industries, where exact torque control is critical.

UKS (from 1990): High flexibility with modular design

With the UKS, the operating pressure was increased to 800 bar, resulting in a significant performance boost of up to 50,000 Nm. Its modular design and flexible interchangeable head system provided the UKS with versatile application possibilities.

SQS System (from 1994): A new level of safety and efficiency

The SQS System (Safety Quality Service) introduced by Plarad enhanced reliability and precision. The high-pressure safety chamber, maximum torque accuracy, and a special spring system for impact damping also significantly improved the efficiency of the tools.

A look ahead at modern innovations and future developments

From the beginning, hydraulic torque wrenches by Plarad have brought numerous innovations and have been continuously developed to meet the growing demands of the industry. The second part of this blog presents the modern solutions and advancements that Plarad has achieved in torque wrench technology.
