Milestones in bolting technology: From the first innovations to modern precision
In the first part of this blog series, we explored the origins of PLARAD’s hydraulic torque nutrunners. Building on this early success, Plarad has continuously worked on advancing its technologies to enhance the performance of square drive wrenches and meet the growing demands of key industries such as mechanical engineering, wind energy, and heavy industry.
LT (from 1990): Aluminum housing and increased performance
The LT model set new standards with its closed aluminum housing and a torque range of up to 75,000 Nm. With an operating pressure of 800 bar and a 12-position adjustable reaction arm, it proved to be highly versatile. Its compact design and lighter weight made it easier to handle. The LT, in an updated version, continues to be widely used in industries such as wind energy and offshore applications.
MSX/C & T (from 1995): Combining flexibility and performance
The MSX/C & T models combined flexibility with high performance, offering up to 65,000 Nm at 800 bar. A toothed reaction arm and secure locking mechanism with a pull pawl allowed for quick adaptation to various bolting tasks. These models are especially popular in the automotive industry and for the maintenance of large machinery.
The MX Series (from 2003): Modularity and versatility
With the MX series, Plarad has launched a modular series that combines performance and adaptability. From the basic models (MX-BA) to the mid-range product (MX-EC) and the precise high-end model (MX-IQ), the MX series provides solutions for a wide range of industrial applications.
MX-EC with Sensor (from 2018): Precision with real-time monitoring
The MX-EC with sensor is a prototype that integrates three sensors for torque, rotational angle, and end position detection, enabling real-time monitoring. This technology improves the safety and precision of bolting operations. The prototype was first showcased to customers at BAUMA 2022.
